Oh, Henry! We love this little man who came to us Oh, Henry! We love this little man who came to us thanks to @loveleorescue (previously Hiro).

He’s the sweetest good boy who was found in not great shape (swipe to last photo to see how they found him).

Thank you to everyone who helped save him!

❌Before I got the portable rack I thought there was no room in my house to have a barbell, but I was wrong.

✅I’m able to set up my rack and barbell and do my lifts no problem in here.

It’s also sturdy enough to hold the bar and plates for my back squats, and I also love that I don’t have to mess around with adjusting the height since it’s set up for me.

The rack is portable since it is 2 pieces, which means I can put it in the closet when I’m done with it. The plates also live in my closet, and I lean the bar up against the corner of the room.

Here’s what it looks like in here when I’m lifting – so you really don’t need a lot of space for your equipment at home.

💪Strength training doesn’t take as much time 💪Strength training doesn’t take as much time as you think!

➡️I get through my whole set of lifts for the day in about 20 minutes, including some warm up.

💪You’ll notice as well that more than half of the time is NOT lifting, but RESTING.

✅This is a vital part of lifting that you should not/cannot overlook, as the rest period permits your BONES to recover their mechanosensitivity (aka how sensitive they are to loads, therefore how well they will build new bone).

✅Wanna take a LIVE weight lifting class with me and @laurelbeversdorf where you’ll get tips galore that are tailored to your needs?

OUR OOPSIE STORIES FROM THE TEACHING TRENCHES—ep OUR OOPSIE STORIES FROM THE TEACHING TRENCHES—episode 47 (last one of season 2!) on the Movement Logic Podcast.

In this episode, @laurelbeversdorf and I reflect on our most cringe stories from the teaching trenches + the big and small lessons we learned from them.

You will belly laugh at our mistakes, and learn vicariously through them.

DISCLAIMER: the language in this episode gets a little salty so you may want to listen when there are no children around.

You will learn:

🤦‍♀️ That making mistakes is a crucial part of getting better at something, and in fact if you aren’t making mistakes, you probably aren’t learning as much as you could be.

🤔Why Laurel dislikes the phrase “in the trenches” to describe teaching weekly classes or privates.

🫣Why the only way to learn how to teach skillfully is to teach—and there will (or must be) mistakes!

😎The difference between people who are excellent versus mediocre at something often comes down to how many mistakes they made—people who are excellent at what they do have often made a lot of mistakes and have learned from them!

🧐What Sarah’s oopsie taught her about what she was looking for in a studio to teach for, as well as what kind of teacher she actually wanted to be.

🤓How the concept of somatic dominance helps both Laurel and Sarah better understand their mistakes in retrospect, and how much the yoga and fitness community has changed (and hopefully continues to change) on a systemic level since.

🤓Mistakes often involve multiple different lessons, some of which can be learned immediately, and others that might take years or decades for us to realize.

😬That shame is a normal human emotion, we can experience shame while also not letting it shape our identity and prevent us from learning and growing.

😃The mistake that taught Laurel she was teaching people not poses.

🤩How making big mistakes can sometimes fast track really important lessons that might have otherwise taken much longer to learn.

🤗 How story-telling can transform shame and help you process what happened in a healthy way.

You’re not going to want to miss this raw and honest episode!

💥I’m telling you this not to make you feel bad, but because I’m seeing people in the clinic in pain with confused breathing, mid-back pain, and a lot of holding through the trunk in general.

❌Shoulders back and down is not the solution to their pain, nor is it appropriate (or necessary) for practicing yoga.
